who are the crimestoppers?
This is a group of interested
citizens who provide rewards for individuals who have pertinent information
that will aid in the arrest and conviction of a person who committed a
crime.
if i have information on
a criminal act, who do I call? if the crimestoppers publish a crime
or not, and you know information that you feel would be of value, call
1-800-432-1001.
how can my identity be kept
anonymous during the process? you will be given a personalized number
on your first call. it will then be up to you to contact us at future
times and identify yourself by this number only.
when i receive the reward
will i still be anonymous? absolutely! after a conviction,
when you contact us, we will suggest several ways to get the reward for
you. maybe you will have a better idea, but that will be up to you.
what are the usual amounts
of a reward? we publicize "up to $1,000." we have given the
maximum in several cases, depending on the type of crime and the amount
of money involved. if we recover $50 worth of merchandise, we logically
could no afford a $200 reward.
who decides how much of
a reward to pay? we have a committee that meets with the law enforcement
agency who got the conviction. this committee then decides how much of
a reward to pay.
what happens if two or more
people pass on information of the same crime? the total reward will
be split between other parties according to the importance and timing of
all information. the same committee decides this. it has happened
before.
where does the money come
from for the rewards? several places. soup and pie suppers,
donations, and in-kind gifts.
what if the crime has not
been published as a crimestoppers function and i have information?
pass it on anyway. that will automatically place it in the crimestoppers
category. don't wait for the publication.
will i have to appear in
court to testify? no! unless you reveal your identity or if
you are directly involved in the case.
take a bite out of crime
by being on the watch at all times. take notice of strangers, their
vehicles, their licenses numbers, their clothing DESCRIPTION, their actions
and always ask "Why?"
